Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist seek a fellowship-trained Oculoplastic Surgeon to join our academic faculty through a unique joint appointment in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to develop a comprehensive academic oculoplastic practice within one of the nation's leading academic health systems. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with access to a broad referral network and opportunities for clinical excellence, research, education, and global outreach.

Unique Opportunity

This position offers a rare academic partnership between Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology, providing comprehensive exposure to the full spectrum of oculoplastic surgery—from aesthetics and periocular rejuvenation to orbital disease, skull base collaboration, trauma, congenital reconstruction, and post-Mohs reconstruction—within a large tertiary referral center and integrated academic health system.


Highlights

  • Joint faculty appointment in the Departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Ophthalmology, at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor levels.
  • Academic practice within Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the academic core of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the United States
  • Comprehensive oculoplastic and orbital surgery practice encompassing:

Functional and aesthetic eyelid surgery

Periocular facial rejuvenation and cosmetic procedures

Mohs reconstruction and periocular oncologic reconstruction

Orbital surgery

Lacrimal surgery

Thyroid eye disease management

Congenital craniofacial and periocular deformities

Trauma reconstruction

Skull base and multidisciplinary surgical collaboration

  • Participation in a high-volume tertiary and quaternary referral center
  • Practice at a Level I Trauma Center with extensive multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Opportunity to develop specialized clinical interests and innovative programs
  • Access to dedicated clinical, research, and educational resources

Faculty members are encouraged to pursue careers as clinician-educators, clinical investigators, or surgeon-scientists. The successful candidate will have opportunities to:

  • Participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education
  • Engage in clinical and translational research
  • Collaborate with faculty across ophthalmology, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, dermatology, oncology, and craniofacial surgery
  • Develop regional and national academic leadership roles
  • Participate in international surgical outreach and global health initiatives


Training and/or Experience Required

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency
  • Completion of an ASOPRS-accredited fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • ASOPRS board-certified or board-eligible
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and scholarly activity
