Description & Requirements

If it’s possible, you will find it at Atrium Health—the leading community-focused academic healthcare system serving North Carolina and South Carolina. We invite BE/BC Hematologist Physicians with a focus on Sickle Cell Disease to discover all that we can do when we bring healing hearts, inquisitive minds and visionaries together in our Levine Cancer Institute team in Charlotte, NC.

Atrium Health is the leading healthcare system delivering accessible and innovative patient centric care serving North Carolina and South Carolina. Wake Forest University School of Medicine with its campuses at Winston Salem and Charlotte serve as the academic core of Atrium Health.

Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute has a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, research, education and holistic supportive care. The division of hematology includes the sections of classical hematology, lymphoma, leukemia and plasma cell disorders. The division has a robust FACT accredited inpatient and outpatient cellular therapy program performing approximately 250 cellular therapies per year including autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, CAR T cell therapy, and is an approved center for gene therapy in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The division of hematology has a strong research track record with over 250 research manuscripts in the last 3 years and over 40 actively accruing clinical trials. The division also emphasizes clinical and research mentorship for junior faculty, hematology oncology fellows and medicine residents.

The Adult Sickle Cell Program at Atrium Health/Levine Cancer Institute is a comprehensive, patient-centered program that works collaboratively to improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with SCD. Guided by a mission to deliver culturally sensitive and coordinated care, the program offers hematological services, psychosocial support, and robust education and outreach. The program has integrated social work, care management, pharmacy, and mental health services to optimize care.

In 2025, the SCD program expanded from one to two clinical sites. The program has developed individualized emergency department care plans, expanded education across the health center, increased access to disease-modifying therapies, advocacy within the local, state, and national community, and active participation in multiple clinical trials. The program has a robust relationship with our local community-based organizations and has a collaborative patient and community engagement through our SCD Community Advisory Board.  We are a recognized center for the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers and a site for the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative.

The Division of Hematology is seeking a board- eligible/certified Hematologist with special interest in Sickle Cell Disease to join its Section of Classical Hematology at the level of Assistant Professor or above. The SCD program is committed to providing outstanding patient care, through innovative research trials with a strong focus on lifelong care (in collaboration with Levine Children’s Hospital), to patients with SCD.
