Description & Requirements

Wake Forest Baptist, an 885‑bed tertiary care academic medical center, partners closely with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, creating a strong environment for education, innovation, and clinical research. The program is structured to manage the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, from preventive and general cardiology to advanced interventions, heart failure, transplant, structural heart disease, and complex electrophysiology. This academic integration allows physicians to care for some of the most complex cardiac and vascular patients in the region while remaining engaged in teaching and scholarly activity. Programs include advanced heart failure and transplant, congenital heart disease, structural heart interventions, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular and endovascular surgery.

Education and training are cornerstones of the program. The institution maintains long‑standing, ACGME‑accredited fellowship programs in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery, and advanced practice provider cardiovascular fellowships.

High Point Medical Center, part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, is a 351-bed facility and the second-largest hospital in the Wake Forest enterprise, serving a regional population of more than 600,000 across North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad. Cardiovascular care is centered at the Congdon Heart & Vascular Center, offering a full spectrum of advanced cardiac and vascular services within a state-of-the-art facility. Services include invasive, non-invasive, and interventional cardiology; cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology services; comprehensive cardiothoracic and vascular surgery; advanced imaging and diagnostic testing; cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation through the Heart Strides program; and preventive cardiology and risk factor management.

Highlights
Full-time, 1.0 FTE 
Opportunity is exclusively coronary, with no peripheral vascular or structural heart interventions

Clinical Responsibilities – Inpatient Services
6-8 weeks of inpatient service annually
Inpatient service providing consults for floor and CCU patients, working closely with inpatient APP team
Cath Lab attending of the day rounds on CCU patients

Secondary sites: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Winston-Salem, Lexington Medical Center, Davie Medical Center, Wilkes Medical Center, Hugh Chatham Health, Alleghany, Greensboro 
Clinical affiliations with external rural hospitals: Iredell Health, Catawba Valley Medical Center, VA

Cath Labs 
5 cath labs at main campus, 3 at High Point and 1 at ASC in Greensboro
Cases will be completed at both main campus and High Point 
 
Clinical Focus
Full range of diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures, including coronary angiography, PCI (angioplasty and stenting), atherectomy, and advanced coronary imaging (IVUS/FFR). The role focuses on managing acute coronary syndromes (STEMI/NSTEMI) and complex coronary disease. This is not a structural opportunity. 
 
Typical Weekly Schedule
Two to three days per week in the cath lab performing procedures
One to two days per week in clinic

Outpatient Clinic 
Team based care model using provider pods that include MDs and APPs; APPs manage the majority of return patient visits for physicians within the pod. 
Robust clinical infrastructure, including Epic, Dragon dictation, and DAX ambient documentation tools.
 
Call & Weekend Coverage
1:5 Weekday STEMI call rotation on average
1:5 Weekend STEMI call on average
Mondays off post STEMI weekend call
