Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Opportunity, Charlotte, NC
The division of Cardiology at Advocate Health is seeking a Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Intensivist to join their growing team.

Position Highlights:
Clinical Care
- Provide 24/7 coverage (in rotation) for the CVICU, managing preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for patients undergoing congenital cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures.
- Direct evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including those with complex single-ventricle physiology, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant-related care.
- Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate individualized care plans.
- Manage mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, vasoactive medications, ECMO, VAD, CRRT, and advanced monitoring modalities.
- Serve as the primary intensivist responsible for rapid response and code events related to cardiac patients.
Collaborative Environment
- Partner with congenital cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and CVICU nursing teams to deliver integrated care.
- Act as the central clinical liaison for families, providing education, counseling, and updates throughout the surgical care continuum.
- Coordinate care transitions between the CVICU, step-down units, cath lab, and operating rooms.
Administrative & Leadership Opportunities
- Support program development for congenital cardiac services and critical care expansion.
- Participate in departmental committees, strategic planning, and accreditation or regulatory preparedness.
Ideal Candidate:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in pediatric cardiac intensive care preferred (fellowship may satisfy this requirement depending on scope).
- Board certification/eligibility in:
- Pediatric Critical Care Medicine or Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Anesthesiology (depending on institutional model).
- Additional fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, Congenital Cardiac Critical Care, or equivalent specialized experience required/preferred.
- Current PALS certification; ECMO specialist training preferred.
- Competency in management of postoperative congenital cardiac patients, ECMO/VAD support, and high-acuity critical care environments.
- Expertise in congenital cardiac physiology and surgical recovery pathways.
- Strong leadership and communication skills in high‑stress, multidisciplinary environments.
