Join the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine working at Brenner Children’s Hospital on the campus of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The position offers a Wake Forest University School of Medicine academic appointment at the rank commensurate with experience and credentials. You will serve the booming population of North Carolina - the 9th most populous state and the 3rd fastest growing.
Highlights
About Us:
The Wake Forest Pediatric Nephrology practice offers a well-rounded, intellectually challenging, supportive, and collaborative environment at a major U.S. academic institution. You will join a team that supports a kidney transplant program, an outpatient maintenance dialysis program that actively encourages peritoneal dialysis, a level 1 pediatric trauma center, a burn center, an ECMO program, and a level IV NICU. The practice has a robust virtual health clinic to meet the regional needs of the state with the 2nd highest rural population in the country and the national needs of a pediatric kidney specialist shortage.

About the Department:
You’ll join a department well-staffed across the range of specialties, including 4+ pediatric rheumatologists and two pediatric urologists. There are multi-D clinics and conferences for Tuberous Sclerosis, Uronephrology, and Lupus, and opportunities to start and lead others given the high volume of patients, the diversity of conditions, the wide-ranging catchment area, and the range of specialists.

About the Team:
You’ll join a 4-physician team with 3 APPs (one inpatient, 2 outpatient), a nephrology RN who was formally a dialysis RN, renal dietician, a renal social worker, and a pediatric transplant coordinator. An additional peds/adult transplant SW and dialysis unit SW also support our programs.

Our outpatient dialysis unit is a dedicated section within a larger Wake Forest adult unit. In addition to maintenance dialysis, you will provide in-hospital CRRT, acute HD, acute PD, and PLEX. (If you didn’t get training on PLEX, we will train you). For biopsies of native and transplant kidneys, IR does about 2/3 and we do 1/3. We use Epic as our EHR. Our CKD, dialysis, and transplant summer camp partner is Camp Victory Junction.

We are members of NAPRTCS and the main coordinating center for the SUPERHERO hypertension registry. Our medical education mission includes our own pediatric nephrology fellowship and teaching of house staff, medical students, and APP and pharmacy students.

Additional Highlights:
Research and collaborative opportunities exist in what only a top U.S academic institution can provide: the world-renowned Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, (developer of the lab-grown bladder), the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center, the Cardiovascular Sciences Center, Center for Artificial Intelligence Research, Center for Healthcare Innovation, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Vaccines at the Extremes of Aging, Center on Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Center for Remote Health Monitoring, and Center for Precision Medicine.
