Education and training are cornerstones of the program. The institution maintains long standing, ACGME accredited fellowship programs in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure/transplant, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery, and advanced practice provider cardiovascular fellowships.
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was created in 2025, the Department transitioned from Internal Medicine to reflect the continued growth, clinical volume, and academic mission of cardiovascular services across the enterprise. The Section currently supports ~30 non invasive cardiology providers.
The Section Chief of Non Invasive Cardiology will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership for the Non Invasive Cardiology Section, reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. The role is designed as 1.0 FTE, with an 80% clinical / 20% administrative effort. Up to 20% protected research effort may be added with appropriate funding support.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Section of Non Invasive Cardiology.
- Implement and sustain a long term vision centered on excellence in clinical care, education, and research, with a strong emphasis on improving health equity for the populations served.
- Develop and expand extramural research programs spanning the Atrium Health Enterprise, aligned with institutional strengths and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Translational Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular Science.
- Continue to grow and diversify the Section’s portfolio of industry and non industry–funded clinical trials.
- Recruit, retain, and mentor exceptional clinical faculty, research faculty, and advanced practice providers (APPs).
- Support faculty career development, promotion, and scholarly productivity while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Build strong working relationships with other Cardiovascular Medicine section chiefs, enterprise leaders, and collaborating academic and clinical departments.
- Maintain highly collegial relationships across specialties and disciplines to support integrated patient care and academic initiatives.
- 10–13 weeks of inpatient service annually, including 8–10 weeks with weekend coverage.
- Serving as overseeing attending for an APP led inpatient team; responsibilities include morning rounds, care coordination, and consultative support.
- Teaching Service: Oversight of resident teams
- CVICU Service: Reserved for non invasive cardiologists with appropriate critical care training and/or experience
- Opportunity to work closely with cardiology fellows in clinic.
- Team based care model using provider pods that include MDs and APPs; APPs manage the majority of return patient visits for physicians within the pod.
- Robust clinical infrastructure, including Epic, Dragon dictation, and DAX ambient documentation tools.
- Imaging responsibilities will be individualized based on Section needs and candidate expertise.
- Weekday and weekend call shared across NI and IC faculty.
Physicians within the practice live throughout Winston Salem and neighboring communities, including Clemmons, Lewisville, High Point, and Greensboro. - Successful record of clinical and service excellence, research experience, and graduate medical education
- Leadership experience preferred
- Interest in critical care is welcomed
