AHWFB Department of Internal Medicine, Section on Hospital Medicine, is seeking a Hospitalist with training in Internal Medicine to join our dynamic inpatient team at Davie Medical Center, in Bermuda Run, North Carolina and Lexington Medical Center, in Lexington, North Carolina. 

Work in a Supportive & Collaborative Environment: 

As a Hospitalist within the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist system, you'll be an integral part of a dedicated healthcare team, collaborating with physicians, nurses, case managers, specialists, and clinical pharmacists to ensure safe and effective patient care during hospital stays. Your role involves admitting patients, closely monitoring patient progress and making necessary treatment adjustments, and engaging in meaningful discussions with patients and their families about their care. Additionally, you'll facilitate seamless communication with the patient's primary care team and provide essential medical records to support their ongoing treatment.

Position Information:

Full-time, Clinical Adjunct Faculty position
Cover day shifts at Davie Medical Center (50%), which is a 50-bed community hospital with 36 medicine beds, in Bermuda Run, North Carolina 
Admitting, rounding, discharging and consultation responsibilities
  • Typically cover 10-15 patients daily
  • Collaborate with APP on their patients
  • Swing provider available for admissions after 10am
Determine patients that require transfer to tertiary hospital and facilitating such transfer 
Robust virtual support for subspecialty needs.
No ICU 
Cover day shifts at Lexington Medical Center, which is a 60-bed community hospital with 40 medicine beds, in Lexington, North Carolina
Admitting and consultation responsibilities
  • Typically cover admissions from 7-9am alternating between MDs admissions after 9am go to swing shift
  • Average census of 20-22 patients split with APP. Max census per team is 25 (split 14/11 with APP)
Cross-coverage of all ward patients, including but not limited to assessing patients and developing appropriate plans as needed for any acute events of changes in patient status and good communication with nursing
Determine patients that require transfer to tertiary hospital and facilitating such transfer. 
Robust virtual support for subspecialty needs. Cardiology, Pulmonology, Wound Care, General surgery, Orthopedics, ID and Urology are available in house
Closed ICU with 24/7 Critical care coverage
Respond to Rapid Responses and CODES for your patients 
Coordinating with Nursing Staff and Care Management
Provide appropriate hand-off/sign-out at the conclusion of each shift to the day team 
Procedural skills not required, but can if desired
EPIC electronic medical records

Training and/or Experience Required
Position Requirements: 

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school and ACGME-accepted Internal Medicine residency program.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Active license to practice as physician from NC Med Board.
  • ACLS certification.
