Atrium Health Behavioral Health is a vital part of Carolinas Medical Center and is the largest regional provider of mental health and substance use services in the Carolinas and is currently seeking a psychiatrist who will work primarily in the community (outreach centers, on the streets, in homeless encampments). The position serves the homeless population of Mecklenburg County.
This team provides the most advanced care in psychiatric, and substance use services and offers treatment options for adults, adolescents, and children through a comprehensive, integrated system of inpatient and outpatient programs.

Position Highlights:
- Community-Based Care: Provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment directly to the unhoused community
- : Work as part of a multidisciplinary street medicine team delivering care in non-traditional settings (streets, encampments, shelters).
- Collaborate with nurses, and outreach specialists to address mental health, substance use, and social determinants of health.
- Adapt to dynamic, field-based work environments with a focus on patient engagement and trust-building.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to support individuals with complex mental health needs and histories of trauma.
- Promote mental health awareness and advocate for systemic changes to improve access to psychiatric care for marginalized populations.
- Coordinate follow-up and linkage to community resources, housing programs, and outpatient services.
