Description & Requirements
Join Atrium Health as a Trauma Surgeon Physician in Charlotte, NC (University)—part of Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the country.
At Advocate Health, we’re committed to being a Best Place to Care—where physicians are empowered, heard, and equipped to do their best work. You’ll be part of a leading integrated system with a shared commitment to innovation, well-being, and the communities we serve. Whether you're seeking professional growth, meaningful impact, or a team that lifts you up—this is where it starts.
We are seeking a full-time general surgeon with a strong commitment to emergency general surgery to join Atrium Health’s (AH) Division of Acute Care Surgery as member of the AH-University City Acute Care Surgery Service in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Atrium Health’s Division of Acute Care Surgery currently employs 18 full-time, academic faculty and 4 military faculty providing urgent care to acutely ill and injured patients at two AH facilities, the flagship Level I trauma center Carolinas Medical Center and University City. To advance the Division’s primary mission of providing highest value care for all acutely ill and injured surgical patients within our region, the AH-University City Acute Care Surgery Service was initiated in 2020. Since its inception, the service has grown substantially, now performing greater than 1100 cases annually, with a robust and expanding EGS robotics program, and recently expanded clinic access and surgical block time.
The Division of Acute Care Surgery is recruiting a well-trained acute care surgeon to support the growth and expansion of the AH-University City ACS program and the AH Surgical Critical Care Network as an academic faculty member of the Department of Surgery. The role will be predominantly emergency general surgery with some elective general surgery cases with daily access to the robotic platform for elective and urgent cases. 20-25% of the time will be engaged in critical care, including mixed medical-surgical ICUs and covering virtual surgical critical care within our large system.
Atrium Health operates nine facilities within the greater Charlotte region that provide some aspect of Acute Care Surgery (ACS). Our integrated system has roughly 50,000 ACS admissions annually, of which roughly 30,000 are emergent general surgery (EGS) conditions. In December 2022, AH and Advocate Aurora Health merged to form Advocate Health. Headquartered in Charlotte, Advocate Health is one of the largest, most comprehensive and integrated, public, not-for-profit systems in the nation serving nearly 6 million patients annually. Advocate Health is comprised of more than 1,000 sites of care and 67 hospitals with more than 21,000 physicians and nearly 42,000 nurses. Additionally, AH and Wake Forest Baptist Health merged in 2020, began construction of the Wake Forest School of Medicine Charlotte Campus in 2023, with the first full class of students matriculating in 2025.
