Join Atrium Health as a Family Medicine/OB Physician in Monroe, NC at Union Family Practice—part of Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the country.
Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine in Charlotte are seeking a full-spectrum Family Physician to serve as an Associate Program Director and site director for the Department’s Carolinas Medical Center Residency Program site in Monroe, NC. This faculty member will join a growing academic department committed to innovative education, clinical excellence, and impactful primary care research. This faculty member will support the program director in the operation and general administration of the residency program, oversee and organize the educational program at the Union Family Medicine site, monitor resident well-being and participate in the evaluation of trainees. This faculty member will also maintain an active clinical practice as teaching faculty, including continuity clinic, resident precepting, inpatient service, and routine obstetric care.
The Department of Family Medicine at WFUSM was established in 1973 and is nationally known for its leadership in Family Medicine, for its Center for Primary Care Research, and for exceptional teaching of FM residents and fellows. Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program and Carolinas Medical Center Residency Program both have a long history of excellence in residency education, and most of our graduates stay in the area.
The department has hosted third- and fourth-year medical student clerkships for many years, but now has the chance to be more integrally involved in all four years of the medical school curriculum with the opening of our new Medical School campus in Charlotte.
This position would join Union Family Practice in Monroe, North Carolina. Monroe, North Carolina is the county seat of Union County. It sits in the Piedmont region along the U.S. 74 corridor and is located about 25 to 35 miles southeast of Uptown Charlotte, making it a key suburb and part of the greater Charlotte metropolitan area. The clinic is a full-scope Family Medicine community clinic three miles from the 180-bed Union hospital that is part Atrium Health and the Advocate Health system.
- Join eleven Physicians, one APP, six FM Residents, & support staff at Union Family Practice
- Be part of the leadership team for Carolinas Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program as part of the Department of Family Medicine
- Effort allocated at 40% protected educational/administrative time and 60% clinical effort
- Residency teaching position with a faculty appointment to Wake Forest and includes outpatient precepting and rotation on the Atrium Health CMC inpatient service for up to 6 weeks per year
- Participation in call responsibilities shared with other supervising physicians/providers as applicable.
- Office hours are Monday–Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM

- Experience an environment that provides safe and equitable care for all patients
- MD or DO with board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or AOA equivalent, and maintenance of certification.
- Clinical competence in full-spectrum family medicine including routine obstetrics (labor management and vaginal delivery). ALSO certification preferred, ALSO Instructor status preferred. Maternity care in the Inpatient setting required. Care of adults and children in the inpatient setting preferred.
- Active North Carolina medical license (and DEA registration), or eligibility to obtain, by the start date.
