Whether you're seeking professional growth, meaningful impact, or a team that lifts you up—this is where it starts.We are seeking a Full-Time Newborn Hospitalist to join the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Division at Advocate Children’s Hospital, practicing across our community hospital network in the Chicago suburbs with the opportunity to maintain and advance skills in a Level IV NICU environment.
This unique hybrid role blends community newborn care and Level II nursery management with selective exposure to high-acuity neonatal care at a tertiary referral center, ideal for pediatric hospitalists with strong newborn interests.

- Advocate Children’s Hospital – Oak Lawn, IL (Level IV NICU)
- Advocate Sherman Hospital – Elgin, IL
- Advocate Condell Medical Center – Libertyville, IL
- Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital – Barrington, IL
- Hybrid with primary community newborn hospitalist + academic/tertiary NICU experiences
- Mix of Level I–II nursery care and high-risk neonatal exposure
- Flexible scheduling models including 24-hour community shifts
- Strong neonatology collaboration in community sites and on-site support at Level IV site

Key Responsibilities
Community Hospitals (Condell, Good Shepherd, Sherman)
24-hour shift model
- Manage Level I newborn nursery and unassigned infants
- Provide primary care for Level II nursery patients (with neonatology consult support)
- Evaluate and admit newborns for jaundice, feeding issues, or transitional care needs
- Attend deliveries with neonatal backup available
- Provide pediatric ED consults as needed
- Co-manage select post-operative adolescent patients
Site-Specific Opportunities
- Good Shepherd: Telehealth consults across system EDs
- Condell & Good Shepherd: Teaching/precepting MS3 students (RFU)
Level IV NICU (Oak Lawn)
Day Shifts
- Independently manage Level II NICU patients (typical census: 6–15)
- Perform daily rounds, care planning, and documentation
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care with neonatology, nursing, and consultants
- Communicate clearly with families regarding clinical status and plans
Night Shifts
- Attend high-risk deliveries with in-house neonatologist support
- Perform newborn resuscitation and stabilization (NRP-based)
- Assist with admissions, cross-coverage, and urgent neonatal issues
- Participate in teaching of residents and students

Ideal Candidate
- Pediatric hospitalist with a newborn-focused practice interest
- Values a hybrid model of community practice + tertiary exposure
- Strong communicator who thrives in team-based, family-centered care
- Interested in education, quality improvement, and system-based practice
- MD/DO
- Board Certified/Eligible in Pediatrics
- Eligible for Illinois medical licensure
- NRP certification required
- Experience or strong interest in newborn and Level II nursery care
- Comfort with delivery attendance and neonatal stabilization
